Kitchen Team Member

COME AND HANG OUT WITH US!

El Planta restaurant in South Brisbane

We’re a little Mexican bar and restaurant in the heart of South Brisbane.

Now in our 6th year, we’re really hitting our straps — we know who we are, what we want, what we like, and what we don’t.

Things have been a little crazy here lately, and we’re on the lookout for a Kitchen Team Member to join the crew.

About the Role

The role includes helping prep food and setting up the kitchen ready for the night’s service, then working with Shiela and Izzie through service — helping plate up final dishes, make tortillas, and more.

It’s around 25 hours per week, starting at 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The position will start as casual, with the option to move to a Permanent Part-Time contract (including holiday and sick pay).

You’ll need to bring the energy — we get busy, and we have a very specific expectation of the customer experience.

We’re a small, hands-on ownership team, so being a great fit with the amazing crew we’ve built is critical — all existing team members sign off on any new hires.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have kitchen experience (big or small kitchen is fine, but experience is a must);
  • Available Tuesday to Saturday nights from 4pm to 10pm;
  • Enjoy working in a small kitchen, bouncing ideas, tasting, testing, and chatting about the menu;
  • Happy to work in multiple roles — from prep and setup to running the pass or making tortillas — and don’t mind doing your own dishes during the day;
  • Be systems-driven and willing to help refine our processes.

A Little More About Us at El Planta

We’re on a mission to create a new kind of hospitality — to make Brissie and hospo a better place. That means we’re always on the lookout for exceptional team members who love food, cocktails, and wine, and who are motivated to deliver memorable, unique experiences.

We’re a small, tight-knit team — fitting in is essential (the whole team signs off on new team members).

We’re dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. We believe our strength lies in our diversity, and we’re committed to maintaining a workplace where differences are honoured and individuals can thrive.

As Part of the Team, You’ll Get

  • Paid for every hour you’re at work (we take work/life balance seriously);
  • A genuinely fun place to spend your time;
  • Support and opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve your own goals.

Applicants Will Need To

  • Be able to move — the kitchen gets busy, especially on weekends;
  • Not take yourself too seriously or be too precious;
  • Say what you mean, mean what you say;
  • Stay calm under pressure;
  • If the word “shit” offends you, we’re not for you;
  • Fit in well with the existing team (this is crucial!);
  • Not have a “that’s not my job” attitude — everyone pitches in to get it done!
